Providing the People with Grain
It's happening again. The fields are green. The wheat, corn, and beans are filling fields that were once brown with row upon row of life. Living in South Dakota we get to watch this process happen each spring as the fields are planted in faith leading into into the summer as the rain and sun cause the seed to spring into full-grown plants. This summer has gone well for most. Where fields were able to be planted, God supplied what else was needed to have what we see now.
"You care for the land and water it;
you enrich it abundantly.
The streams of God are filled with water
to provide the people with grain,
for so you have ordained it.
You drench its furrows
and level its ridges;
you soften it with showers
and bless its crops.
You crown the year with your bounty,
and your carts overflow with abundance.
The grasslands of the desert overflow;
the hills are covered with flocks
and the valleys are mantled with grain;
they shout for joy and sing."
--Psalm 65:9-13
That is the prayer now- "crown the year with bounty." And provided all continues as it has, there will be "carts overflow[ing] with abundance."
Verse 9 uses the phrase "the streams of God." Don't forget about God's streams that flow out to you and me too. The stream of LIVING water that fills us as well and provides for our growth. As we are nourished from it, we also will be able to bring in an abundant harvest of souls.
So be thankful for the green fields and pastures and let it remind you of God's faithful waters.
