Delightful Reminder

Sometimes we forget. Maybe it's just me since I am 46. But I think more likely that we forget things because we get bogged down in the moment or with our circumstances.

For example, we forget days of doing whatever we want when we are sick. We forget what brought us to marry our spouse when we are at one another's throats. We forget the warmth of summer when it is winter and the chill of winter when it is summer. We forget the blessings of prosperity when we find ourselves in want.

David in Psalm 18 reminds us of the God who never forgets us. The One who hears our cry for help and parts the heavens to come down and rescue us. "The Lord thundered from heaven...He shot his arrows and scattered the enemy...He reached down from on high and took hold of me; he drew me out of deep waters...he rescued me because he delighted in me."

I like that last part. All of these great steps he took for me, he did because he delights in me. He delights in me. That word delight says to me that God's face lights up when He sees me. A smile comes to His face when I enter the room. It's the same feeling that I get when a picture of Elowen, my granddaughter, is sent to my phone, when Amy arrives home after she's been out for the day, or when any of my children come home from their travels. I just light up! The Lord of the universe feels that way about you!

"For who is God besides the Lord?

And who is the Rock except our God?

It is God who arms me with strength

and keeps my way secure." -Psalm 18:31-32

So today a reminder that one true God is for us, and "if God is for us, who can be against us?" (Roman 8:31) The One who delights in you is always on your side, and He will never forget you, nor will He forsake you. (Hebrews 13:5)
