Yesterday we were back in the sanctuary. It's been months since we met together inside. The clocks needed new batteries. (Thanks, Jim!) The church needed a deep cleaning. (Thanks, Darby!) The sound system needed some tweaking. But we came into the church, and it was good.
The sons of Korah wrote in Psalm 84:
"How lovely is your dwelling place,
O Lord Almighty! My soul yearns, even faints,
for the courts of the Lord;
my heart and my flesh cry out
for the living God." (Verses 1-2)
They, like us, can meet with God anywhere, but there is something to be said for coming together with other believers in the sanctuary and the fellowship with one another and with God that takes place. You can't find quite the same experience alone, or watching on a screen, or sitting in separate vehicles. That is why the Jews made pilgrimages to get to the Temple in Jerusalem. They knew:
"Better is one day in your courts
than a thousand elsewhere."
May He continue to allow us to meet together in His presence. But if we didn't, at least we got our "one day".
